Title THE VEGETATION OF THE WEST SAND AND MUD FLATS ALONG THE MOUTH OF THE IJZER RIVER AT NIEUWPOORT PROVINCE OF WEST FLANDERS BELGIUM FROM 1900 TO TODAY
Source Biologisch Jaarboek
Abstract The only daily inundated salt marsh in Belgium is studied. Its history during the last century is one of deterioration and regression caused by many kinds of destruction. Several species have disappeared; the vegetation has totally changed and is now dominated by Agropyron pungens; the typical salt marsh communities are relicts. A vegetation map was drawn in summer 1975, based on more than 40 releves. A few measures for future management are mentioned briefly.
