Abstract Endophytes are bacterial or fungal organisms inhabiting plants and algae. This study addressed the research questions of whether fungal and/or bacterial endophytes inhabit the rhizomes of Zostera marina, Zostera japonica and Phyllospadix scouleri and whether the number of endophyte taxa differs between seagrass species in the San Juan Archipelago of Washington State, USA. A total of 42 endophyte taxa were isolated with 37 taxa inhabiting Z. marina, 31 inhabiting Z. japonica and 27 inhabiting P. scouleri (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
