Job description

The Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at the University of Sussex Business School is seeking an experienced administrator to support post-award research grant management, for a fixed term to cover the post holder’s maternity leave.

Working closely with the Principal Investigators, the SPRU Research Unit Manager, and the Research Finance Officer in the Research and Enterprise Division, the Research Projects Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operational administrative and financial support for a wide ranging portfolio of research projects, in order to facilitate the delivery of the research and fulfilment of reporting requirements, including ensuring timesheets for all staff are completed, expenditure is planned and processed accurately, and all procedures around contracts and staff recruitments are followed through the University’s finance and HR systems.

You will need to be confident working with spreadsheets, automated administrative and finance systems, be meticulous and well-organised, able to work on your own initiative and within teams, self-managing a varied workload with competing priorities. Ideally, you will have some experience of research grant administration, and some knowledge of/interest in research in the areas of science policy.

The successful candidate will be approachable, helpful and flexible, and will have the opportunity to interact with a wide range of international academics and other colleagues and partners, within a dynamic research environment.
