Applications are invited for the post of Research Fellow in Cancer Biology at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS). We are looking to recruit a post-doctoral scientist with a strong background in the field of cancer research, preferably with a specific focus on haemato-oncology or cancer immunology.
This project is designed to exploit a unique multi-compartment in vitro model of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). The central aim is to investigate the mechanisms that promote changes in tumour cell phenotype and function as they traffic between the vasculature and the lymphoid tissues. This is important because for CLL cells the lymphoid tissues provide a proliferative drive, foster increased tumour cell drug resistance and are the sites of residual disease and relapse. Using our model, as well as paired ex vivo samples from the same patient, we will investigate the role of the microenvironment and constitutive sub-clonal architecture in promoting migration and drug resistance.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed candidate with a strong research track record in cancer research, with research experience in cell biology, flow cytometry and molecular biology. The project is funded for 3 years by the Blood cancer charity, Bloodwise.
