Job description 

A Postdoctoral Researcher is needed for a new UKRI-funded research project at the University of Sussex. The project aims to provide a new theoretical understanding of the factors that drive and sustain community support and the mutual aid groups that have arisen in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The work will involve designing, running and analysing interviews and a questionnaire survey of participants in mutual aid groups.

The project is led by Professor John Drury (School of Psychology). The post will involve being the lead researcher on two empirical studies. First, an interview study of organizers and coordinators of support and mutual aid groups to identify factors that sustain participation in such groups.

Second, a large-scale questionnaire survey of participants in such groups to examine predictors of sustained involvement.

Specific duties will include: getting ethical clearance; arranging and carrying out interviews; organizing, coding and analysing qualitative data; designing and analysing the survey; archiving data-sets with UK Data Service; presenting conference papers; populating, managing and updating a website; helping to organize Impact events.

Skills and experience required include proficiency at interviewing and qualitative analysis (e.g. thematic analysis), and at questionnaire design (psychometrics) in social psychology and analysis.

The postholder will liaise with colleagues running other strands of a larger project (at Keele and St Andrews).
