Job description

The University of Sussex is seeking expressions of interest from pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists wishing to join the Pharmacy teaching team to support the delivery and teach-out of its MPharm degree. Sussex Pharmacy is committed to delivering high-quality research-informed teaching which inspires our students. We aim to produce highly skilled pharmacists who display a strong research orientation in professional practice while optimising patient and public safety.

Although the MPharm degree is closed to new entrants, the team is delivering our bespoke MPharm curriculum and to our student population of just under 100 students in years 2, 3 and 4 of the degree. The pharmacy teaching team is committed to continuing to provide an excellent student experience.

Our MPharm degree integrates students’ knowledge of biology, pharmaceutics, chemistry, pharmacology and behavioural and social sciences, legal and ethical aspects of the supply of medicines and professionalism. Our teaching is innovative and highly interdisciplinary having received 5 teaching excellence awards in the last 3 years. The team is supported by colleagues from across disciplines in the School of Life Sciences.

There are potential opportunities for academics and professionals across all disciplines, with full and part-time (with flexible working opportunities) available. Posts are likely to be offered on the teaching and scholarship pathway, but we will consider approaches from those seeking a teaching and research role. Grades will range from 7 to 9 on the lecturer/senior lecturer scale (£33,199 - £58,089 pa full-time) on the university’s single pay spine, dependent on contribution and experience. The roles will be fixed term until summer 2022.

Expressions of interest are welcome from those pharmacists (ideally with membership of the GPhC or PSNI) and pharmaceutical scientists who are able to demonstrate the capacity to design and deliver innovative research-informed high quality innovative, pharmacy teaching and assessment, which contributes to  our pharmacy students’ experience and  produces students capable of operating at the highest levels of  professional  and clinical  practice, and pharmacy research. Applications are particularly welcomed from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Mathematics (STEMM) at Sussex.

Expressions of interest should take the form of a brief statement of areas of potential contribution, and should include a full CV. This should be submitted to Sara Hinchliffe, School Manager, Life Sciences (s.j.hinchliffe@sussex.ac.uk)
