Job description

As part of a new strategic development in the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, the Department of Physics at the University of Sussex is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Experimental Materials Physics.

Targeted research areas include applications of graphene and related materials and their applications for renewable energies.

Successful applicants will join the newly established Materials Physics group. Supported by significant strategic funding by the university and extensive newly refurbished laboratory space, the group is focused on applications-driven studies of nanomaterials and nanostructured composites.

Such materials include quasi-1D nanostructures such as carbon nanotubes and metallic nanowires, and 2D layered nanomaterials such as graphene, boron nitride and metal dichalcogenides.

Applicants in research areas with scope for interdisciplinary collaborations with other Schools at the University of Sussex (e.g. Life Sciences, Engineering & Informatics or Brighton and Sussex Medical School) are encouraged, especially  those in areas with potential for generating research impact, as defined in the context of the UK Research Excellence Framework.
