Background and Context
As part of the One Professional Service project we will be consolidating the line management responsibility for Professional Services (PS) staff in Schools through the appointment of four new Grade 9 ‘Heads of Professional Service’ roles. These roles will be managed by the Director of Planning and Performance, David Cole, who will have overall responsibility for the delivery of services within Schools. Heads of Professional Service will also have a reporting line to relevant Heads of School.
The Heads of Professional Service will line manage the most senior PS role in each school, who will also have a reporting line to relevant Heads of School. BSMS will continue with its current structure and the Medical School Secretary will have a close working relationship with the Heads of Professional Service team.
The four Heads of Professional Service roles will have responsibilities covering the following informal school groupings:
- University of Sussex Business School
- Arts/Humanities/Media (MFM, English, HAHP, SCLS)
- Social Sciences (LPS, Global Studies, ESW)
- Sciences (EngInf, MPS, Life Sci, Psychology
The efficient and effective delivery of all aspects of administrative support to Academic Schools, within the grouping. Act as the conduit/interface between the academic community of the Schools and the University’s PS (both within and out with relevant Schools) to ensure single team working to deliver the University’s Strategic Objectives.
To support the Senior Management Teams of the Schools in developing and executing their approved strategies (incl. the monitoring of KPIs, maintenance of the School’s risk registers, horizon scanning etc.).
