The University of Sussex is a leading higher education and research institution. The first of the new wave of UK universities founded in the 1960s, receiving its Royal Charter in 1961, Sussex is a successful, growing University with a top-20 place in the major UK higher education league tables.  The University has a beautiful and diverse estate located in Falmer, to the east of Brighton and Hove.  It is situated in the South Downs National Park and has amongst its buildings a core heritage estate designed by Sir Basil Spence.

The University has developed a £500 million masterplan – a programme of investment to modernise and improve the campus so that we can provide the best facilities for our students, academic and professional staff, and the local community.   The masterplan provides a framework for the future development of the campus and includes projects to provide new state-of-the-art academic and research facilities; a new student village consisting of 2,500 new student rooms on campus to support the University’s growth plans; and significant investment in the preservation of Sir Basil Spence’s famous listed buildings and surrounding landscape.

The Head of Commercial Services is senior leadership position which is responsible for the future strategic direction of all commercial activities which include Accommodation, Conferencing, Events, Hospitality and Catering.  This is a role that spans the full array of strategic and operational responsibility including change management and transformation programmes.

The role will suit commercial individuals with a passion for making a difference and devising innovative solutions focused on enhancing the student experience. You will possess wide ranging management expertise across a diverse variety of commercial services with strong people management skills. You will have a proven track record in a similar collegial and collaborative environment with excellent organisational ability combined with demonstrable success in long-term strategic planning. Demonstrable success in devising and delivering commercial strategy is essential.
