Job description

The University has an exciting new opportunity for a Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Knowledge Exchange) to assist the Pro-Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise in bringing together academic staff with external partners to increase the impact of our research. 

The Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Knowledge Exchange) will provide strategic leadership for the University in external engagement. As such the postholder will work with organisations to find innovative solutions to the challenges they face and support translation of University research, capabilities, and facilities, into the wider economy and society. The person will help develop relations with key stakeholders in Brighton & Hove as well at regional, national and international levels.  The Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor will also be responsible for enacting at Sussex the UUK’s Knowledge Exchange Concordat and will have strategic oversight of the University’s participation in KEF. 

You will have a track record of research leadership and importantly because of the high level external profile of this position have excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrate understanding of how business and the public sector works, particularly in relation to driving economic growth. Experience of building relationships with external stakeholders will be important, as will experience of working with senior Professional Services staff to drive change and deliver positive outcomes. 

The appointment will be on a 0.5FTE basis and will be combined with an existing academic post.
