Job description

We are looking to recruit a fellow to support the work of the sustainable healthcare group at Brighton & Sussex Medical School.  The post is offered initially for six months, but there may be opportunity to extend beyond this period.

Digital healthcare is part of the solution to streamlining care pathways, to improve pathway efficiency, and reduce financial and carbon costs.

Working with the research team and the company Open Medical you will lead work to look at how digital technology can streamline pathways.  Initially this will focus on pathways in Ear Nose and Throat surgery, and will examine pathways at the point of referral for elective or emergency care as well as pathways before and after planned operative interventions.  You will record qualitative data that will inform projected pathway efficiencies, financial savings, and reduced patient journeys (and associated carbon footprint).  You will interview staff for their opinions on the technology and workflow.

BSMS is a leading research institution in the field of sustainable healthcare.  Open Medical has over a decade of experience in providing data driven and digital solutions to optimizing clinical workflows (https://www.openmedical.co.uk/).  This is a University and industry collaboration, with academic independence.

You will be supervised by Professor Mahmood Bhutta at BSMS, and Prof Dimitra Petrakaki at the University of Sussex.

Please contact Professor Mahmood Bhutta at m.bhutta@bsms.ac.uk for informal enquiries.

The University is committed to equality and valuing diversity, and applications are particularly welcomed from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Mathematics (STEMM) at Sussex.
