Job description

CHASE Doctoral Training Partnership

The Consortium for the Humanities and the Arts South-East England (CHASE) comprises the following university institutions: Birkbeck, the Courtauld Institute of Art, Goldsmiths, the Open University, SOAS, and the Universities of East Anglia, Essex, Kent and Sussex. CHASE holds a £14m Doctoral Training Partnership block grant from AHRC, which along with institutional matched funds has funded 405 PhD studentship awards over 5 cohorts since 2014. Sussex is the co-ordinating institution for the consortium, and hosts the Director and an administrative team.

A second block grant was recently awarded in the AHRC DTP2 call, to issue 56 studentships per cohort up to 2024. In this grant, Birkbeck and SOAS are full members of the consortium, and the Open University is an associate member.

CHASE is governed by a Management Board, with representation from all member institutions. The Management Board reports to a Strategy Board comprising Pro-Vice Chancellors (Research) or equivalent from member institutions. The Strategy Board ensures delivery to bid and other strategic commitments, and provides strategic direction to the DTP.
