Job description

Applications are invited for Chair in Imaging Physics at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS). The holder of this post will lead a research programme and oversee the medical physics aspects of the work of the Clinical Imaging Sciences Centre (CISC) as the Academic Director of CISC. CISC is a purpose-built interdisciplinary research, imaging and teaching facility with two MRI scanners (Siemens Prisma 3T & Avanto 1.5T) and a PET CT scanner, located on the University of Sussex campus as part of BSMS. CISC has a strengths in imaging neuroscience research has been central to high profile basic and clinical neuroscience projects, drawing together researchers from BSMS Schools of Psychology, Life Sciences, and Informatics at the University of Sussex, from  the University of Brighton and from NHS Partners. 

The post is open to applications for suitably qualified experts in the field of medical physics and MRI research and represents a rare opportunity to make a significant contribution to the development, management and strategic direction of an advanced imaging research facility.

The successful applicant will be expected to hold a track record of innovation in imaging methodology and relevant teaching and research experience, including supervision of postgraduate students. Contributions to the teaching of undergraduate medical students and related administrative responsibilities of the school will be required. The successful candidate should have a demonstrable ability to raise substantive research grant income, and the potential to initiate and strengthen collaborations with basic and clinical scientists across University of Brighton and University of Sussex (via Sussex Neuroscience, encompassing faculty from BSMS and Schools of Psychology, Life Sciences and Engineering & Informatics), also working with clinicians at BSMS and partner NHS providers. The latter notably include Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals Trust (BSUHT) and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SPFT).

From an academic perspective, this post will be based in the Department of Neuroscience at BSMS.
