Show your support by saying “I Care...” during Carers Week 2023

Next week is Carers Week (5-11 June), which aims to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.
A carer is anyone who looks after a family member or friend who has a disability, mental or physical illness, addiction, or who needs extra help as they grow older. Whilst many feel that caring is one of the most important things they do, it can be challenging. Caring without the right information and support can be tough, which is why it is vitally important to recognise the contribution carers make and ensure they get the support they need.

Carers Week 2023 resources and activities
More information and resources can be found on the Carers Week 2023 website including ways to get support or join the campaign. You can also take part in face-to-face and online activities happening across the UK during the week – use the virtual map to find out what’s happening near you or add an event you may be running.

We offer guidance for people working at Sussex who have caring responsibilities our Carers webpages. You can find information on flexible working, parental and dependents leave, our Sussex Parent and Carer Staff Network, childcare on campus and more.
Sussex Parent and Carer Staff Network
The network aims to support staff in balancing their caring responsibilities and professional roles and is open to all Sussex colleagues, in any role, who have some form of caring responsibility.
