Sussex Teaching & Learning Conference 20th September 2011

The day included presentations, workshops and panel discussions offering the opportunity for us to get together and share good practice amongst ourselves. Over 100 colleagues with a teaching and/or learning support role at Sussex or our partner colleges attended.

10.00 Clare Mackie (Pro-Vice-Chancellor Teaching & Learning) will welcome colleagues, present certificates to winners of the 2011 Sussex Teaching Awards and speak about this year's NSS results.

11.30-12.30 Parallel sessions by Sussex colleagues, sharing good practice related to the theme of the conference. 

  • Frameworks for assessment: marking guides to set expectations and facilitate reflection.
  • Student conferences.
  • A professional dialogue as mode of assessment.

13.30-14.30 Parallel sessions by Sussex colleagues, sharing good practice related to the theme of the conference. 

  • Learning conversations on Facebook.
  • Diversifying assessment techniques: enhancing students' learning and motivation.
  • Study Direct as a site for learning conversations between students and faculty.

14.45-15.45 Parallel sessions by Sussex colleagues, sharing good practice related to the theme of the conference. 

  • Building a sense of community.
  • Lessons and quizzes on Study Direct.
  • Measuring effort and effect in a teamwork assessment.
