Where and when to submit and resubmit

You will be asked to submit your work electronically via Canvas for assessments which have been set up for electronic submission & feedback (e-submission and e-feedback).

Types of submissions

There are three routes for e-submission. This will be displayed in your assessment instructions in Canvas and will determine the technical requirements for your submission to be accepted by the system.

  • Turnitin: a single text-based document under 40mb can be submitted in a limited range of formats. Please refer to the following webpage for more information.
  • Canvas: depending on how the assessment has been set up you will be required to submit either one or more files, a media recording, website address or text. Please refer to the following webpage for more information.
  • Mahara: a single portfolio page or collection (of multiple pages) created using the University of Sussex Mahara e-portfolio system. Please refer to the following webpage for more information.

All assessments which have been set up for electronic submission will have a location point under the 'Assignments' tab of the associated module site in Canvas. You will be able to use this point to submit work whilst it is open for submission and review feedback once it has been released by your tutor.

How to find your assessments in Canvas

  1. Login to Canvas and select the module you wish to submit your work to from either the 'Dashboard' or 'Modules' page.
  2. Select the 'Assignments' tab from the module navigation menu.
  3. Each assignment includes a Due date and time (deadline for submission) and Available until date and time (deadline for late submissions). Select the assignment you wish to submit to for further information on the assessment and instructions for the submission.

The module assignments page should be used for final submissions only. However, if you make a mistake when submitting your work, in some instances you will have the opportunity to resubmit in-line with the guidelines and instructions below.

To submit a draft copy of your work for the purpose of similarity checking, you should use the ‘Turnitin Similarity Check’ site in Canvas.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have submitted the correct file and one which will be accepted by the e-submission and e-feedback system. Please refer to the ADQE web page for more information on assessment regulations.

Resubmitting your work

  • Before the Due date: You can submit and resubmit work up to your assignment Due date. Any file present in the system at the Due date will be used as your final submission.
  • After the Due date: after the Due date has passed, if no previous submissions are present in the system, you will be able to submit work during the period of permissible lateness (before the Until date).
  • After the Until date: once the period of permissible lateness has ended (Until date), the assignment will be closed and you will no longer be able to submit any work.
