Podcasting can be a great tool both in and outside the classroom.

Podcasts are audio files, usually centered around a certain topic, that are shared digitally with others through the web.

Podcasts tend to be created to inform, educate or entertain dependent on their goals.

They exist independent of any gatekeepers unlike traditional media like radio and can be both quick and cheap to produce and share.

Podcasts can be a great tool to be used both for teaching purposes by teachers and students as well as being a great way to share and publicise research content.

  • Teacher creating podcasts around module topics as a learning resource, either for revision or flipped learning.
  • Q&A session, students send in questions and teacher records themeslves awsnering questions.
  • Students creating their own podcasts, great way to use blended learning in the classroom and create a valuable teaching resource at the same time.
  • Students create their own podcasts as a means of assessment.
  • Researchers use podcasts in order to publicise their work.

Creating podcast allows students to develop several important skills such as AV skills, confidence in speaking, researching, writing, speaking effectively, solving problems, collaborative working, managing time and grabbing attention.
