There are a number of events planned for the remainder of 2007, two of which need your urgent attention please:

Details on both are given overleaf, with booking forms.  Members are welcome to bring partners to all events.

Finally, please note that I have been appointed Deputy Director of the St Paul’s Ca­thedral Foundation, so after 18 enjoyable months back at my old University, I shall be leaving on 25 May – but will, as a former member of staff, be back to participate in some of these myself!   A successor to my post will be appointed shortly who will continue to support Suss-Ex.   Roger Walkinton


SUSS-EX DINNER AT THE HOUSE OF LORDS, MONDAY 29 OCTOBER 2007

 

Former SPRU Senior Fellow Baroness Margaret Sharp will be hosting a University of Sussex dinner in the Cholmondeley Room at the House of Lords on Monday 29 Oc­tober 2007 at 7 for 7.30pm.  Former Vice-Chancellor and Chair of the Suss-Ex steering group Professor Sir Gordon Conway will welcome us.  We are delighted to announce that Baroness Shirley Williams has agreed to speak after the dinner.

 

Current staff and their partners will also be very welcome to attend, numbers permitting, and all are now invited to apply.

 

All-inclusive tickets are now on sale @ £65.  Please make cheques payable to the University of Sussex and send them by 25 May 2007, together with your completed booking form, to the dinner organiser, Jackie Fuller, at the address below (not to the DARO office).

 

Menu:   Starter: Stilton & pesto on puff pastry

              Main Course: Roast rack of lamb with coriander & spice crust

              OR VEGETARIAN OPTION IF PRE-ORDERED:

              Risotto of Mediterranean vegetables

              Dessert: Blood-orange charlotte with St Clements sauce

              Coffee with chocolate truffles

 

              Drinks: Sherry or soft drink on arrival and all wines with meal

 

Those booking will be sent a personalised invitation card (which they will need to bring with them to gain entry to the House of Lords) and will also receive full instruc­tions about where to go on arrival etc.  Dress Code: lounge suit.

Guided visit to Wakehurst Place garden and Seed Bank

Assemble at the ticket counter in the gift shop at 10.30 for the tour, which will end by noon.  National Trust members enter free and others gain a group discount if they number at least 10.  Assuming we muster a group of 10 non-NT members, the total cost of admission and the tour will be £10.60 per person (NT members £2.50), pay­able on the day.  Please respond by Thursday 31st May.
