Choosing the right degree is one of the most important decisions you will make. Think carefully about what you want from your studies and what the University can offer. Sussex degrees are designed so you can explore subjects in ways that interest you, as you develop your knowledge and understanding. Students on single honours programmes choose several courses from outside their discipline, while joint degrees and minor options allow you to study exciting combinations of different subjects.
Single honours programmes allow you to focus mostly on one subject, such as anthropology, English or psychology. Within this subject, you will have a range of options so you can explore particular areas. You will also select complementary courses from other subjects to help you understand the subject in its wider context.
If you want to study more than one subject in depth, our joint degrees offer exciting combinations of subjects, like History and Film Studies, or Politics and Philosophy.
What you learn in one subject complements and enhances what you learn in the other. Spending half your time on one subject and half on the other, you can still choose options that interest you in each.
Finally, if you want to have a main area of study, but gain some understanding in another subject as well, we offer an exciting range of ‘minors’ alongside the main degree programme, such as Law with Anthropology or International Business with a Language. This means you spend three-quarters of your time on the major subject and a quarter on the minor subject.
Details of all the single honours, joints and minors available in each subject area are set out on the following pages.
For each, you can see what studying that subject involves and where it might take you. As well as looking at the subjects that first interest you, take time to look at a variety of others. Sussex offers areas of study that may be new to you. But as you explore them, you may find they are just what you want to do.
