Make one of our Open Days your first step.

Starting early June 2013

Preparing for your UCAS application

All applications must be made online via the UCAS Apply service.

This is available from summer 2013 and you can choose a maximum of five courses (four for medicine).

The codes for courses at Sussex are given with the individual course descriptions at Undergraduate courses 2014 and our institution code is S90.

3 From 1 September 2013

Make your application

From 1 September 2013, UCAS begins processing applications for university admission in September 2014 (or deferred entry in September 2015 for gap-year students). When UCAS receives your application, it tells your chosen universities which of their courses you have selected.

4 15 October 2013

Closing date for applications for medicine

The closing date for UCAS to receive applications for medicine is 15 October. If you are thinking of applying to the Brighton and Sussex Medical School (institution code B74, course code A100), you must submit your UCAS application by this date.

5 15 January 2014

Closing date for applications for subjects other than medicine

The normal closing date for UCAS to receive applications is 15 January 2014. UCAS will, however, continue to accept late applications (until 30 June 2014) and forward them to universities. At Sussex we consider all late applicants, but there is a risk that some courses may already be fully subscribed.

The closing date for overseas students from outside the EU is 30 June 2014. We ask all unqualified applicants applying on the strength of wider experience, and students with disabilities, to be sure to submit their forms by the 15 January closing date, to give time for the extra-careful consideration that we give such applications.

6 November 2013 to April 2014

Interviews, offers and Admissions Days

Before deciding whether to make you an offer, we may invite you for interview. Otherwise, we will decide whether to make an offer and then invite you to visit us for an Admissions Day. Interviews and Admissions Days are normally held from January to April and they give you a chance to ask as many questions as you choose. Official notification of offers is made through UCAS.

When all of the institutions you have applied to have made their decisions, UCAS will prompt you to choose one as your first-choice ‘firm’ offer and, optionally, a second-choice ‘insurance’ offer.

7 Summer 2014

Exam results

If you hold a conditional firm offer and have obtained the required standard in your exams, your place at Sussex will be confirmed through UCAS. If you hold an insurance offer at Sussex and have been rejected by your first-choice university, you will be placed here automatically by UCAS, provided you have the necessary grades/passes. If you hold a conditional offer at Sussex and you have not obtained the required qualifications, we may still offer you a place as we consider every such case carefully.

Please note: all exam results should be received by the University by 31 August.

8 August to September 2014

Clearing and adjustment

Clearing is the process designed to match students with remaining university places. Adjustment allows students who have done better than expected to explore their options. Both processes start after the A level results are published and, if Sussex has any vacancies, they will be advertised on our website and in the national press. Demand for places at this time is very high, so applicants looking for places need to act quickly in contacting the University. The University does not always have vacancies in clearing, so you should not rely on being able to gain a place during this process.
