What you need to do
For entry to full-time undergraduate degree courses, you must apply to the University of Sussex through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). You do this using the online UCAS Apply service.
Your school or college will be able to provide you with help and advice on how to apply. If you are not currently at school, you will still be able to apply online and should visit UCAS, where full information about the application system is provided, including details on how to register.
When you apply via UCAS you can make a maximum of five choices of degree course around the UK per year (although only four of them can be for medicine). You do not need to use all five choices if you do not want to and you can make more than one application to a single university if you wish. You do not give any indication of a preference on the application, just list the universities and colleges alphabetically. In fact, universities cannot see where else you have applied.
When you complete the application, you will be asked to enter codes to indicate your choice of university and degree course. Information about these codes will be provided by UCAS but, to help you, the institution code name for Sussex is SUSX and the institution code is S90. You will find the individual UCAS course codes listed with each course accessible via Undergraduate study. Once you have completed your application, it should be submitted, together with your application fee, to UCAS, who will forward your applications to the respective universities. If you have any additional information that you think we will need, you should send a copy to Undergraduate Admissions, at the address below, and we will attach it to your UCAS application.
As explained in our Admissions countdown, the initial deadline for applications to Sussex degrees is 15 January 2013 (with the exception of applications for the Brighton and Sussex Medical School, for which the deadline is 15 October 2012). UCAS will accept late applications after this date (until 30 June 2013), but some degrees may already be fully subscribed.
What we do with your application
Once we receive your application from UCAS, it will be handled by the relevant admissions staff for your chosen subject. The admissions team will carefully review the information you have given in your personal statement, your academic record and the comments of your referee, and ensure that you meet any specific entrance requirements as listed with each course accessible via Undergraduate study.
Entry to Sussex is competitive so we are unable to offer a place to everyone who applies. Each application is treated individually, and what happens with your application and how long it takes to process will depend on your personal circumstances and your chosen degree course. As our initial decision is based on the information contained in your UCAS form, it is important to complete the online application with great care (and we may withdraw any offer if the information on the UCAS application is inaccurate or incomplete).
