Visit us

An Open-Day visit gives you a feel for what Sussex is like. Academic tutors and current students will answer your questions and help you decide whether Sussex is right for you. Can't make our Open Days? Come to one of our regular campus tours.

Preparing for your UCAS application

All applications must be made online via the UCAS Apply service.

This is available from summer 2015 and you can choose a maximum of five courses (four for medicine). Sussex course codes are displayed with the individual course descriptions at Undergraduate study.

Our institution code is S90.

3 From 1 September 2015

Make your application

From 1 September 2015, UCAS begins processing applications for university admission in September 2016 (or deferred entry in September 2017 for gap-year students).

When UCAS receives your application, it tells your chosen universities which of their courses you have selected.

Closing date for applications for medicine

The closing date for UCAS to receive applications for medicine is 15 October. If you are thinking of applying to Brighton and Sussex Medical School (institution code B74, course code A100), you must submit your UCAS application by this date.

5 15 January 2016

Closing date for applications for subjects other than medicine

The normal closing date for UCAS to receive applications is 6pm on 15 January 2016.

However, UCAS does accept late applications (until 30 June 2016) and forwards them to universities. At Sussex we consider all late applicants, but there is a risk that some courses may already be fully subscribed.

The closing date for international students from outside the EU is 30 June 2016.

If you are an unqualified applicant applying on the strength of wider experience, you must submit your forms by the 15 January closing date. This ensures we have sufficient time to fully consider your application.

6 November 2015 to April 2016

Interviews, offers and Applicant Visit Days

Before deciding whether to make you an offer, we may invite you for a interview (or, for drama studies applicants, a workshop). Find out which courses include an interview as part of the admissions process.

Otherwise, we decide whether to make an offer and then invite you to visit us for an Applicant Visit Day. Interviews and Applicant Visit Days are normally held from January to April and they give you a chance to ask questions and see the campus.

Offers

Official notification of offers is made through UCAS. When all of the institutions you have applied to have made their decisions, UCAS will ask you to choose one as your ‘firm’ offer and, if your offers are conditional and you want one, a second-choice ‘insurance’ offer.

7 Summer 2016

Exam results

If you hold a conditional firm offer and have obtained the required grades/passes, your place at Sussex is confirmed through UCAS.

If you hold an insurance offer at Sussex and have been rejected by your first-choice university, you will be placed at Sussex automatically by UCAS, provided you have the necessary grades/passes.

If you hold a conditional offer at Sussex and you have not obtained the required qualifications, we may still offer you a place. At Sussex, we consider every case carefully and give close attention if Sussex is your firm choice.

All exam results should be received by the University by 31 August.

 July to September 2016

Clearing and Adjustment

Clearing matches students with remaining university places and begins in July.

Adjustment allows students who have done better than expected to explore their options and starts when the A level results are published

We list details of the vacancies we have on our website from July for those with early results, and will preview A level vacancies the day before A level results are published. Demand for places at this time is very high, so if you are interested in a place at Sussex, you must contact us as soon as you have your grades.

9 September 2016

Joining us

If your place at Sussex for 2016 entry is confirmed, you will receive registration and pre-arrival information during early September, with a view to joining our freshers’ induction programme in mid September.
