The Summer School runs for eight weeks starting in late June, providing a wide range of intensive courses for credit in the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences, with over 80 courses to choose from. Visit the International Summer School website for details of the courses on offer and to view a video of our Summer School students.
Courses run for four weeks, and you take one course at a time. A standard four-week course carries 15 Sussex credits. Two four-week courses in succession carry 30 Sussex credits.
You can attend the Summer School for either four weeks or the full eight weeks. All students are housed on campus in single study-bedrooms with shared kitchens.
You will be able to enjoy the exciting seaside resort of Brighton & Hove, the beautiful South Downs countryside surrounding the University campus, and London is an hour away by train. Although the core of the Summer School is its students, faculty and courses, other aspects – the beach, restaurants, theatre, local history and English pubs – are all part of an exciting summer at Sussex.
Social programme
The Summer School organises a number of social events, trips and films. At the beginning and end of each session of the Summer School there will be welcome and farewell receptions – an opportunity to meet other students, faculty, and a number of Sussex students who act as guides during the summer session.
We also organise dozens of smaller events each session, ranging from a karaoke night at the King and Queen pub in Brighton (a favourite) to organised walks on the nearby South Downs.
These events are a great opportunity to socialise with other Summer School students outside of class, and to experience British life (such as going for fish and chips) and what the surrounding area has to offer.
Fees
The fees for the full eight-week Summer School 2012 are £2,450; or £1,325 for the four-week course, plus rent. For more information about International Summer School courses, teaching dates and fees, email us at summer@sussex.ac.uk or visit the International Summer School website.

Amanda's perspective
As a high school student, I was initially nervous about studying amongst university students, but I’ve felt very welcome as
everyone at Sussex is always keen to help you out. The teachers I’ve had have been really fantastic, so if you’re looking for an intense educational experience, this Summer School will suit you. This programme has given me a taste for university life, and I’m seriously considering applying to Sussex because of its beautiful campus and lovely atmosphere. I’ve enjoyed my stay at Sussex immensely, and will definitely keep in touch with those I’ve met here.’
