PhD project
Chagas disease is a vector-borne Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) of great public health concern in the American continent, where an estimated 5.7 million people are affected. This is an exciting project to estimate the spatial and temporal transmission of Chagas disease at a global scale. The project will:
- develop global geo-statistical models of the risk of Chagas disease transmission using machine learning algorithms and sets of environmental predictors
- contribute to the development of a framework to conduct spatially-stratified cross validation of machine learning models and reduce the effect of spatial autocorrelation and data point uncertainty on model predictions.
This project will involve collaborating with key partners at Imperial College London, the University of Princeton and the Pan American Health Organization.
Eligibility
The ideal candidate will have:
- a strong quantitative background (quantitative biology or epidemiology, statistics, programming, applied maths)
- a strong interest in public health and infectious diseases.
