These PhD studentships are in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Sussex (www.sussex.ac.uk/lifesci/chemistry/).

The work will include aspects of emerging technologies, such as mechanochemistry, flow processes and reagentless transformations, as well as more established methods such as microwave chemistry.

It will also include various aspect of organic synthesis and characterisation.
This research project will examine the use of flow or batch techniques such as:

• microwave irradiations
• mechanochemistry
• very high pressure synthesis for the synthesis of novel organic scaffolds.

This research incorporates aspects from across chemistry, involving synthesis, characterisation and analysis.

As part of the studentship, you may be able to travel to national and international conferences to present research results, and meet collaborators in the north of France to present your work and collaborate on new synthetic technologies.

 

 

Eligibility

 

To be eligible, you must:

• be a UK/EU national
• have achieved, or expect to achieve, a 1^st or 2:1 class MSc, Mchem or BSc (or an equivalent qualification) in a relevant discipline, such as chemistry, materials or chemical engineering)
• an IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with not less than 6.0 in any section, if English is not your first languageDetailed knowledge of specific techniques is preferable but not essential.
