PhD studentship on Modelling and Measurement of Auto-ignition for Iso-stoichiometric Gasoline-Ethanol-Methanol (GEM) Blend (2017)
Removing the biomass limit is one of the greatest challenges to further enlarge the share of renewable ethanol as alternative for fossil fuels. Owing to high latent heat and burning velocity, the ternary Gasoline-Ethanol-Methanol (GEM) blend is attractive for highly pressure-charged engines, where aggressive downsizing is possible.
This project will study the auto-ignition of the iso-stoichiometric GEM blend. Chemkin Pro package and FlameMaster code will be used for simulation. The predicted burning velocity will be validated by measurements from a constant volume combustion bomb. A Ricardo E6 research engine with variable compression ratio will then be instrumented for measuring the auto-ignition of the GEM fuel.
What you get
£14,553 tax free stipend plus a fee waiver to the UK/EU amount
