Dr John Birch Music Scholarship (2017)

The University of Sussex is delighted to honour its much loved former music lecturer and organist Dr John Birch (1929-2012), with these named scholarships to support talented musicians (choral, organ and other instrumentalists) to continue to develop and perform while studying at Sussex. These are open to all full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students, whether or not they are studying for a Music degree.

The scholarships will each be paid in two instalments of £400 in October 2017 and March 2018.

Four scholarships of £800 cash award. Each scholarship is for 1 year.

Eligibility

In order to be considered for a Dr John Birch Music Scholarship you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be Grade 8 or equivalent in a chosen instrument
  • Undertake an audition at Sussex
  • The applicant must have accepted an offer to study at the University of Sussex, or already be a registered student at the University.

How to apply

Candidates should submit a personal statement (max. 500 words) alongside the attached application form. Applications will be ranked and assessed based on how applicants propose to develop their musical career whilst at Sussex.
