If you are a postgraduate taught (PGT) student at Sussex, most of your day-to-day contact and support will be provided by your school of studies. Each PGT student has a course convenor, who may also be their personal tutor or advisor. For taught degrees in the sciences, academic support is provided by the course convenor and the dissertation supervisor. In each school, the Director of Teaching and Learning has overall responsibility for PGT students.
The University also offers dedicated careers development and support for taught postgraduates – an ideal preparation for your future career wherever you go. Our bespoke Masters employability programme offers help with building effective relationships, developing key skills as well as providing advice for those submitting job applications and wishing to develop a career progression plan. Cassie's student perspective
‘I am studying the MSc in Foundations of Clinical Psychology and Mental Health. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Sussex and wanted to continue my studies here as I knew I would have a well supported learning experience.
‘I meet with my course convenor on a regular basis to discuss any issues or to review coursework. My emails to tutors and lecturers never go unanswered, and faculty make their availability well known so students are able to attend one-to-one drop-ins.
‘As a student with an interest in clinical psychology, I have also had opportunities to get both theoretical and practical advice from practising clinical psychologists. The University’s links with local industry have enabled my learning to be brought into the real world. They have opened up numerous networking opportunities that ensure the course is not just about acquiring knowledge but also helps me take steps towards my career goals.’
