HESPAL Scholarship (Higher Education Scholarships Scheme for the Palestinian Territories) (2016)

The HESPAL Scholarship is a joint award offered by the British Council and the University of Sussex which is centred on building capacity in Palestinian universities by providing young Palestinian academics with an English Masters course in a subject that will benefit their home institution and hence the Palestinian Territories.

The University of Sussex and the British Council are committed to providing two scholarships per year. The scholarships covers:

  • Tuition Fees
  • Pre-departure briefing from the British Council
  • Arrival allowances
  • Thesis allowances
  • A monthly allowance to cover living expenses
  • Travel costs to and from the UK

NB: Scholarships do not cover the cost for any accompanying family.

Where awards are made in relation to a fee waiver no fee award will exceed the total fee payable.

Holders of the HESPAL Scholarship are unable to hold another scholarship from the University of Sussex

Eligibility

In order to be considered for the HESPAL scholarship you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be a resident citizen of Palestinian Territories
  • Be currently employed by the Palestinian university which nominates her/him
  • Have a Bachelors or Masters degree from a Palestinian university with a minimum grade of very good (and equivalent to at least a 2.1 Bachelor's Degree from UK).
  • Be below the age of 35 on application
  • Sign a written undertaking to return to Palestine within a time frame agreed, normally one year.
  • Have IELTS certification appropriate for course and university (normally at least 6.5, sometimes higher).
