Our research was highly rated in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). On average 80 per cent of our research was rated as recognised internationally or higher, and half rated as internationally excellent or higher.
Business studies at Sussex was ranked in the top 25 in the UK in The Times Good University Guide 2013.

Coursework

Apart from an academic career, a research degree in finance prepares you for working in a variety of financial institutions at associate level, by-passing the usual graduate training given to BSc and Masters students. Apart from academia, the career destinations of our PhD graduates include senior portfolio manager at Cambridge Strategy, proprietary trader for Millenium Capital, VP commodities quant research at JP Morgan, head of quant research for a Central Bank, EMEA head of risk for Citibank, algorithmic trader for Goldman Sachs, and quant analyst at HSBC.
