SYLFF Fellowships (2018)

One fellowship for UK/EU Masters students and one fellowship for an International Masters student are available through a trust funded by the Tokyo Foundation. The fellowships are offered with the objective of educating graduate students who have high potential for future leadership in international affairs.

What you get

Fee waiver of up to £8,000 for a UK/EU student. Fee waiver of up to £15,000 for an international student.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must have applied for one of these eligible Masters courses at Sussex:

  • Anthropology of Development & Social Transformation
  • Development Economics
  • Environment, Development & Policy
  • Gender and Development
  • Gender Studies
  • Global Political Economy
  • Human Rights
  • International Criminal Law
  • International Relations
  • Science and Technology Policy
  • Strategic Innovation Management

You must also be a national and resident of one of the following countries:

  • Albania
  • Azerbaijan
  • Belarus
  • Bosnia-Herzegovina
  • Croatia
  • Georgia
  • Kazakhstan
  • Kosovo
  • Kyrgyzstan
  • Macedonia
  • Moldova
  • Montenegro
  • Russia (Russian Federation)
  • Serbia
  • Tajikistan
  • Turkmenistan
  • Ukraine
  • United Kingdom
  • Uzbekistan

You are not eligible for this scholarship if you already have another Sussex scholarship (including the Chancellors Masters Scholarship, the Sussex Graduate Scholarship, the Chancellors International Scholarship or the Sussex MBA Scholarship)

You are required to show evidence of your academic potential in your scholarship application. You must demonstrate that you:

  • have excellent grades and relevant skills
  • have clear and specific goals relating to the pursuit of leadership in international affairs
  • have ambition and drive to reach stated goals
  • have relevant work experience or extra-curricular activity

The Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (SYLFF) is a fellowship program which supports students pursuing graduate studies in the humanities and social sciences. The Sylff Program is a collaborative initiative of the Nippon Foundation, the endowment donor, and the Tokyo Foundation, the program administrator. Endowments at institutions of higher learning serve as sustainable sources of fellowships that support the education of outstanding students with high potential for leadership.
