PGCE First-Generation Scholars Award (2017)

The University of Sussex has developed a generous scheme, the First- Generation Scholars Scheme which provides support if your household income is less than £42,875 per annum. This support is in addition to any loans from the Student Loans Company

You will receive a £600 cash award, paid at the start of the second term.

To be eligible for this award you must:

  • have a household income of less than £42,875 per annum
  • ensure that you have ticked the box authorising the sharing of income to enable the SLC to make this assessment
  • not be studying on the Schools Direct (Salaried) courses

Application procedure

There is no formal application for the PGCE First-Generation Scholars Award. Your eligibility for the First Generation Scholars Scheme will be assessed by the Student Loans Company (SLC) when you make your application for funding. Information is automatically downloaded from Student Finance England and passed to the University.
