Topics covered include:

  • heat exchanger theory, design, analysis and applications
  • applications of convective heat transfer to changes of phase (boiling and condensation)
  • boundary layer theory, integral equations and scale analysis
  • applications of heat transfer instrumentation, temperature and heat flux, and associated errors.

Module learning outcomes

  • Systematically understand the fundamental principles of heat exchangers
  • Have critical awareness of heat exchange during boiling and condensation
  • Gain sufficient knowledge on how to measure temperature and heat flux
  • Apply the above principles and techniques in practical design and analysis
