This module explores the legal rules and principles related to the formation and enforcement of contractual promises. In particular, you will consider ideas of offer and acceptance. You'll study the legal doctrine of consideration and the equitable doctrine of promissory estoppel. You will also consider rights of enforceability under the doctrine of privity and then go on to consider the classification and substance of particular terms in a contract.
Module learning outcomes
- Identify and describe the constituent components of a valid and enforceable contract.
- Illustrate using appropriate legal sources how contractual terms are classified.
- Employ relevant legal principles in the interpretation and solving of factual and hypothetical problem scenarios.
- Evidence a critical understanding of the statutory and common law rules, their context and any need for reform.
