This module offers a choice of practical classes on key current techniques in neuroscience including:

  • advanced microscopy and imaging
  • electrophysiology
  • molecular biology
  • psychophysics
  • EEG
  • computational neuroscience 

This practical experience is complemented by seminars on the ethics of human and animal studies.

Module learning outcomes

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of a range of methods in neuroscience research, including experimental and quantitative methods, and an ability to deal with complex practical or analytical issues using systematic and creative approaches
  • Interpret and critically evaluate data or output
  • Critically evaluate the application of the methods and their significance
  • Understand and communicate the ethical principles that are applied to research on animals and humans, and the storage and use of data, and gain a critical awareness of current challenges in their application at all stages of a contemporary research project
