In this module, you learn about contemporary social work practice and examine the factors that influence the development of the profession.
You examine the political and controversial aspects of the social work role, and learn from practicioners working in the profession. You also meet service users and carers.
Module learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an introductory understanding of the range of roles and tasks involved in social work practice through an appreciation of the range of settings in which social work takes place within contemporary British society
- Explain the development of UK social work as a profession through reference to key historical factors.
- Demonstrate an initial understanding of the way in which recent policy initiatives affect the development of social work practice and the context in which social workers practice
- Describe some of the variations in how social work is practiced in other parts of the world and evidence an appreciation of the international role for social work as a profession
