This module constitutes the first 15 credits for students writing Year 3 dissertations. The aim of the module is to prepare students in the devising and organising of their dissertation topic to be written in the Spring term. They will be given a recap on appropriate research methods and through individual and group supervision gain an understanding of the processes involved in the devising, planning and writing of a dissertation. Students will write a literature review through which they will explore their chosen topic leading to the actual dissertation proposal to be written, after consultation with their tutor, over the Christmas break.
Module learning outcomes
- Identify a relevant area of research in consultation with the student’s module tutor.
- Demonstrate systematic understanding of appropriate Media and Cultural Studies methodologies.
- Utilize and critically evaluate a range of primary and secondary sources relevant to their proposed research topic.
- Acquire the relevant advanced research skills and techniques and deploy them in the preparation and selection of their individual dissertation topic.
