Student advice teams

Who we are and what we do

The new Student Advice Teams work with all students at Sussex, offering a professional information and advice service to support you should you experience problems with academic life. They are there to enable you to address any difficulties that may impact on your studies, or any concerns you might have regarding your academic progress.

The Student Advice Teams help students to understand the University regulations in relation to complaints, conduct, discipline, and assessment, and can help you find answers to any queries you have about other aspects of life at Sussex.

The Teams are also responsible for managing student attendance and making sure that you get the best from your studies through coming to lectures and classes regularly.

We know that students who attend the majority of their classes and lectures (80 per cent) get significantly better results than those whose attendance is patchy, and students are expected both to hand in work on time and attend all scheduled teaching. If you find you are having problems getting to classes or lectures, let someone know as soon as possible so that we can help.

The Student Advice Teams are also able to refer students to other specialist advice and information services offering you more detailed and in-depth guidance. These include money and funding advice, careers, counselling, and learning support. Additionally, we can help with result queries, and look at mitigation with you, if you experience significant difficulties that impact on your performance in assessment.
