Members of staff and students are being asked to help universities nationwide become more inclusive by completing an online survey on their religion and belief.
The Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) has commissioned the Religion and Belief in Higher Education research project to "inform the further development of more inclusive policy and practice within the higher education sector that meets legal obligations while also extending good practice".
Staff and students at Sussex can take part by going to the survey website. It takes approximately 15 minutes to complete and is open until 9 December.
The questions focus on three areas:
- Participation and disclosure
- Accommodation of religious observances, and
- Discrimination and harassment relating to religion or belief.
The results will be used to create a report for the ECU, due to be published early in 2011, and will also be presented at an event for the higher education sector.
