The University is expected to operate mostly as normal today (Tuesday 26 March), following a demonstration yesterday (Monday 25 March) organised by students occupying space in the Conference Centre in Bramber House.
An estimated 500 people attended a demonstration at lunchtime in Library Square. Most students attending behaved peacefully.
Following a march around the campus, some protesters then targeted Sussex House, smashing the glass doors at the main entrance and burning files from offices inside.
After security and police intervention, the demonstration then moved on to the occupied space in Bramber House.
Campus services, teaching and research will by and large continue to run as normal, but Bramber House will remain closed today. Any teaching scheduled for Bramber House will have to be either relocated or rescheduled. Students should assume teaching in Bramber House is cancelled, unless notified that it has been moved elsewhere.
The Housing Office is operating its normal 24-hour receptions in York House and Stanmer Court.
The University has condemned the damage caused to Sussex House, which is being repaired and cleaned up as soon as possible. Services in the building are operating as normal today.
Cafes on campus will remain open where it is safe to do so.
If any other services are disrupted, campus users will be notified as necessary.
