Try something new during Student Volunteering Week

This week your Students’ Union are hosting activities to mark Student Volunteering Week (SVW).

SVW is a campaign celebrating student civic action in local communities and on campuses across the UK. Here it’s all about promoting the fantastic benefits that student volunteers bring to Sussex and Brighton, and the benefits you can get from volunteering, too.

Whether you’ve got half an hour or a whole afternoon, there are plenty of ways to get involved. You might like to try a quick or one-off activity, like the micro-volunteering sessions in Falmer House reception and Common Room.

Or, if you’re curious about projects that take place throughout the year, you can meet local charities on campus. Various organisations will be available to talk about longer-term volunteering opportunities supporting a range of social issues.

If you’re keen to meet new people, join a group action day off campus - like the Silent Disco Beach Clean on Saturday afternoon.

See what’s on offer during SVW.

This term also brings the return of the Language Café and the Buddy Scheme.

The Language Café has a new home in Dine Central. Sessions will continue to take place from 6pm until 7.30pm on Tuesdays (Week 2 to Week 11), now on the first floor of Bramber House. If you'd like to brush up skills for your CV and teach other students about your language and culture, learn more about becoming a volunteer.

The Buddy Scheme has fun activities lined up for the term and needs volunteers to support new students joining this month. Being a Buddy Scheme Volunteer is a small commitment that can make a big difference to a fellow student's time at university. Find further information and sign up today.
