Campus improvement works - impacts to roads and parking

A busy period of improvement works continues, and is likely to cause some disruption until the new academic year. These are essential works and we greatly appreciate your understanding and patience during this time.

This update should give you an indication of what is planned for the coming week and how any works might affect you.

Car parks

  • P1 Science car park: open
  • P3 Biology Road car park: open
  • P4 Sussex House car park: open
  • P5 Sport Centre car park: open
  • P7 Arts car park: open

  • P9 Lewes Court car park: open
  • P10 East Slope car park: open (closed permanently from 16 June)
  • Jubilee car park: open
  • Knights Gate car park: opening POSTPONED (update to follow)

To enable the next stages of East Slope construction works, the East Slope car park will be closed permanently from Saturday 16 June.

Although the electric charging points in Jubilee car park are not yet available, drivers who would like to register their electric vehicle in order to utilise these charging points when they come online should contact us at Transport@sef.fm. Note that this facility will be available only to holders of a campus permit or pass to park.

The planned opening of the new Knights Gate Road car park, initially scheduled for 11 June, has been unexpectedly postponed and this will now open a few days later than anticipated. A further communication will be shared with the revised opening date for this car park shortly.

Bike racks

Please ensure that if you have a bike locked up outside East Slope or adjacent to the north side of Swanborough, it is removed and relocated immediately due to the imminent expansion of the East Slope building site.

All bikes must be removed from the double-rack next to Swanborough by Tuesday 12 June.

All bikes must be removed from the East Slope bike racks by Thursday 14 June.

Campus roads

Refectory Road: Works on Refectory Road continue, with temporary lane closures and traffic management in place adjacent to Bramber House. There will however be no traffic management in place for the Open Day on Saturday 9 June.

Traffic management will be in place at the bus turning circle by Park Village car park due to continuing IT works for the East Slope development.

Boiler House Hill: Traffic management will be in place to manage a temporary lane closure on Boiler House Hill on Tuesday 12 June, to enable removal of the permanent hoardings.

Excavation continues in the grassed area on the corner of Boiler House Hill, adjacent to John Clifford West building. A temporary footpath is in place through the trees.

Other works

The parking bays beneath the entrance bridge to the Library will be closed from Monday 18 June for seven weeks due to works on the Library exterior. The loading bay and the service road by the Library will also be closed.
