Sussex targeted by email scam

A large number of students and staff at Sussex received a fake email on Tuesday (10 January) with the subject "Your grant information is enclosed". The message claimed to be from the University, offering a grant payment, but it was not genuine and included a link to a website designed to trick recipients into giving up their bank details.

Emails like this are increasingly common at UK universities and although IT Services do their best to block unwanted and fraudulent messages, it's not possible to catch all of them. If you received this email, you should ignore or delete it, or contact IT Services if you have any further questions.

More advice about dealing with fake emails, including alerts about the most recent threats, are also available on the IT Services website.
