Gold for sports service
In the year of the Olympics and the University’s 50th anniversary, staff in Sussexsport have also been setting their sights high and have now joined an elite group after this week achieving an Investors in People (IIP) gold award.
More than 21,000 organisations across the UK currently have standard IIP status but Sussexsport is now one of only 700 or so (around 3%) of these who have gone on to achieve gold accreditation.
Achieving gold involves being assessed across 165 areas, as opposed to just 39 for the standard award.
Karen Creffield, Head of Sport, says: “Last year we celebrated becoming one of only 3,000 organisations nationwide to be accredited by IIP for 10 consecutive years. This year we decided to step up to the challenge of going for gold.
“We are absolutely thrilled to achieve the award, which is a fantastic achievement for the whole team.
“Investors in People has really helped us to grow as a team on many levels and the additional focus over the last 12 months of going for gold has significantly strengthened us further.”
Charles Dudley, Director of the Residential, Sport and Trading Services, adds: “The whole team is to be congratulated on attaining the IIP gold award. It is an outstanding achievement and reflects the commitment, dedication and high level of service delivery over a long period of time.”
The IIP assessor Kevin Newman states: “There are still very few organisations that have been received the Investors in People gold award.
“Sussexsport is a great example of an organisation that truly cares for its staff team as much as it cares for its customers.”
Kevin also commented that it was rare to see an organisation that had so successfully and clearly defined its values and purpose, with the full involvement and commitment of its team.

The Students’ Union is the only other unit at the University to hold an IIP accreditation, achieving the standard award in 2011.
