Arriving late at night on Welcome Weekend
Find out where to collect your keys if you’re due to arrive after 6pm over Welcome Weekend.
You can use some shops, bars and cafes until 10pm, and the Co-op convenience store is open until 11pm. After this, services are limited.
If you have booked coach travel to the University to arrive after 6pm, a student helper will tell you where to get your keys. If you’re renting privately, check where the coach stops so you can plan your journey.
If you’re lost or have any difficulties, you can go to 24-hour receptions at Bramber House or East Slope residences on campus, or Stanmer Court next to Falmer Station.
Arriving after Welcome Weekend
Welcome Week begins on Monday 25 September 2023.
To guarantee your housing, you must notify the Housing Office if you are planning to arrive to your accommodation after Saturday 23 September 2023. You will still be charged for your room from 23 September. We will only hold your room until Friday 20 October 2023.
If you are yet to take up your accommodation, let Housing Services know you will be arriving as soon as possible. It’s important to tell them when you expect to arrive so your room is not allocated to another student. Housing Services can also tell you where to collect your key.
If you’re renting accommodation privately, speak to your letting agent or landlord.
Arriving after the start of teaching
All new students were expected to arrive in time for Welcome Week (starting Monday 25 September) ahead of the start of term on Monday 2 October. This was the beginning of teaching for most students.
For students experiencing exceptional circumstances which meant they would not arrive by the above dates, a latest arrival date of Friday 20 October was agreed.
If you are not in the UK and able to complete your registration by Friday 20 October, you will need to defer your offer of a place to September 2024. If you are a postgraduate student please contact pg.applicants@sussex.ac.uk to request your deferral. You must put this request in by Friday 27th October. For undergraduate students the deadline to request deferral has now passed.
UK Government guidance for international sponsored students requires taught courses to take place at the university. This means that we cannot deliver any part of a taught course (undergraduate or postgraduate) by either remote delivery or distance learning. This does not apply to our postgraduate Online Distance Learning courses.
If your arrival to the UK is delayed, and you arrive late for the start of your course, your School may provide you with some background reading material or notes, but you will not be permitted to attend lectures or other learning activities remotely.
If you are joining Sussex on a visa, your latest arrival date is automatically included in your CAS. If you do not arrive by this date, the University will be required to withdraw its visa sponsorship. If this is the case, please do not attempt to travel to the UK.
