International students
This site will be fully updated from 1st August 2013
Welcome Weekend for new students is from Saturday 14 September 2013.
Congratulations!
The hard work has paid off and you are finally planning your arrival at Sussex, and we can’t wait to meet you! Coming to study and live in a new country is a life changing experience, and the International Student Support service aims to help ensure that you receive a warm welcome and that your first few weeks run as smoothly as possible. We will be working with the Students’ Union and other departments to co-ordinate a programme of events to help you settle into your new life and meet new people in the UK.
This year the University is running a fully integrated induction programme to ensure that international and UK students have as many opportunities as possible to make friends and welcome each other. With students from more than 120 countries, you will be joining a culturally rich and diverse community and this year a third of students arriving at Sussex will be from overseas – the highest number in the University’s history.
Alongside the academic induction programme which all students must attend, the University is also running a series of cultural and welfare sessions covering important information about life in the UK including how to open a bank account and register with the police; living in University housing or private accommodation; safety and security; campus life and support, health and well-being, and other issues. Details will be available on this website shortly and you can find out more when you arrive at Sussex.
In addition to the many activities being organised by the Students’ Union , the International Students’ Support service is also running a programme of social events and trips during induction and the first few weeks of term (details will be available here shortly) which we hope you will enjoy. Highlights include our ever-popular welcome reception at the historic Brighton Dome on Sunday 29 September.
You can find most of the information you need about starting at Sussex and life in the UK in our International Students' Pre-arrival Guide. Also, the international pre-departure site contains numerous webinar videos which will answer many of your questions.
