Budgets and banking

Plan your budget

Making a budget is one of the most effective ways to manage your spending. Read about living costs, student banking, student discounts, and more for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

If you need help with your finances, the Student Life Centre offers a range of services, including 1-2-1 money advice.

If you are an international student, you may wish to use additional resources such as the International Student Calculator, and you can learn more about fees and finances on our International Student Support webpages.

Open a bank account

Opening a bank account in the UK is the best way to keep your money safe.

Knowing which bank to open an account with can seem a bit confusing as there are many options available to you. There is a bank and a number of cash machines on campus, and there are also a range of banks in Brighton that offer student accounts.

At the start of the academic year it can take a number of weeks to get an appointment with your chosen bank, due to the large numbers of new students arriving into the Brighton area during that period.

For more information on banking in the UK for international students, please see our International Student Support webpages and read our guide: 'Opening a Bank Account: a guide for international students' for further information.
