The best way for students to get a real feel for living and studying at Sussex is to visit our campus. We offer a range of informative and inspiring events throughout the year that are specifically tailored to each stage of students’ decision-making process.
Undergraduate Open Days
We like to give all of our prospective applicants a chance to experience student life and study at Sussex by attending one of our busy and exciting Open Days.
Open Days at Sussex are extremely popular, and always reach capacity. We rely on colleagues from across the institution to contribute to events and ensure that prospective students get the very best impression of what studying at Sussex would be like.
Students have the opportunity to:
- Hear subject talks from each of our departments offering undergraduate degree programmes
- Speak with academics; either informally or 1-1 in our exhibition halls
- Take department tours and view our subject-related facilities
- Explore campus and view examples of our student accommodation
- Hear from experts in Admissions, Student Finance, Careers and Employability, the Student Life Centre and the Students’ Union
- Discover opportunities to study abroad
- Take a bus tour of Brighton and the surrounding area
All of the activities throughout the day are informal and optional, enabling students to tailor their day around the options that best suit their particular interests. Family members attend in increasing numbers, and are free to attend any of the activities or just take some time out to explore campus or nearby Brighton.
Our Undergraduate Open Days take place in June and September each year. Our next open day will be on Saturday 29th September 2012.
Guided Campus Tours
For prospective students unable to make our next Undergraduate Open Day, Student Recruitment Services run guided campus tours, which take place most Wednesdays and Fridays year-round. Tours begin at 1.30pm and take approximately one and a half hours. They start with a short welcome talk followed by a tour of the main buildings, including the library and the Students' Union.
Visitors are guided around the campus and will receive a visitor pack on arrival containing key information brochures. Student Recruitment Services also advise the best ways to get detailed course questions answered via our website, by email or telephone.
Unfortunately we are not abel to provide access to the inside of student accommodation or tours of departmental buildings on campus tours.
Mature Students at Sussex - information sessions
For prospective mature students (i.e those over 21), we also run mature student information sessions. These take place from October to December, giving prospective students time to apply by the UCAS deadline of 15th January. The sessions include presentations on student finance, how to submit a good UCAS application, what Sussex has to offer and the breadth of qualifications we accept. It also includes a student perspective talk from a current mature student and a guided tour of our campus.
Discover Postgraduate Study - information sessions
Our postgraduate information sessions are for anyone considering postgraduate study at Sussex and run between October and June each year. The sessions include a general presentation on postgraduate study, a question and answer session with current students and a campus tour.
Booking is essential for all of our open days, campus tours and postgraduate/mature student information sessions. Visitors can book online at www.sussex.ac.uk/visitors, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call on +00 44 (0)1273 876787.
Admissions Days are opportunities for applicants who have received an offer to visit the University to learn more about their course and meet academic members of staff from their school. These events take place between January and April and include tours of the campus, library, and student accommodation, as well as the opportunity to join a bus tour of Brighton and the surrounding area. Students also have the opportunity to meet the many professional services teams who will support them during their time at Sussex. Guests are welcome to accompany students and either attend sessions or take time out to explore the campus or Brighton.
New Student Induction
Induction is the annual welcome programme of academic and social orientation activities that is put together to help ensure new students receive the best possible introduction to university life.
Supported by Student Recruitment Services, the University's many academic departments and professional services work together to offer our new students a packed programme of orientation events at the start of each academic year in October.
Our Induction website is updated over the summer, to ensure that there is a single source of information on all of the many activities that happen across campus during this time. You are welcome to contact Student Recruitment Services with any questions about this activity programme by emailing email@example.com
