Research grants and commercialisation
This year we secured £50 million of new awards, with the University's research consultancy income doubled on last year’s.
In response to COVID funding calls, Research and Enterprise have been extremely successful in supporting an increasing volume of research bids and new awards, with a four-week turnaround for new awards.
Since the establishment of the new Innovation & Business Partnerships teams last year we have had four new university spin outs agreed - compared to only nine over the last 20 years - with one more about to be signed.
Approximately £300k has been raised from private investors to support our new ventures.
We have also been awarded £200k from South East Local Enterprise Partnership (SELEP) to refurbish the University’s SINC building (also through Innovation & Business Partnerships Team).
