Sussex 2025

Combined Schools Proposal

In April 2019, a proposal for a new academic model - which would see the Schools come together as one unit was put forward by the Heads of School.

The proposal to combine History, Art History and Philosophy; English; Media, Film and Music; and the Sussex Centre for Language Studies has been approved following a comprehensive consultation and engagement process with hundreds of students and staff.

The move will improve student experience and learning, positively impacting research and provide new possibilities for interdisciplinarity.

Hundreds of students and staff were involved in the engagement process and submitted their suggestions for a School structure.

Approximately 250 staff and 3,000 students will make up the new School and recruitment for a Dean of the combined school has now begun.
